Albrecht Dürer is a famous German painter, printmaker and theorist. One of his most famous paintings is a portrait of Jakob Muffel who was one of the dignitaries of the city of Nuremberg and a friend of Albrecht Dürer's.

Now the magic of Adobe Photoshop has helped us to see Barak Obama instead of Jakob Muffel !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Resolution and image size

This lesson is about the first step of retouching an image: Resolution and Image size The term resolution refers to the number of small squares known as pixels that describe an image and establish its detail. In the other word resolution is a measure of the clarity and sharpness of an image.computer graphics there three types of resolution:

1) Image resolution: refers to the number of pixels per unite of length in an image. The unite of length is usually “inch”, so image resolution is usually measured in pixel per inch or ppi. If two images have the same dimensions, the one with high resolution has more pixels than the other with less resolution.

2) Monitor resolution: refers to the number of pixels per unit of length on a monitor. Like image resolution, monitor resolution is usually measured in pixel per inch or ppi. Keep in mind that Image pixels are translated directly into monitor pixels. Therefore, if the image resolution is higher than the monitor resolution, the image appears larger onscreen than its specified print dimensions. For instance when you display a 1-x-1-inch, 192-ppi image on a 96-ppi monitor, the image fills a 2-x-2-inch area of the screen.

2) Printer resolution(output resolution: refers to the number of ink dot per inch.

*Note: the best quality of a printed image depends on the high-resolution printer and high-resolution image.

The zoom level of 100% means that the resolution of the image is exactly the same as the resolution of the monitor. When two resolutions are different, the image size onscreen may be larger or smaller than the image size will be when printed. Undoing actions

In the real world we don’t have the chance of correcting our mistakes but Adobe Photoshop gives us an opportunity to step back and undo the wrong actions. In this lesson, you will learn how to do this. Additionally this lesson introduces you to layering, which is one of the fundamental and most powerful features in Photoshop.
Look at to this picture. The girls’ dress is solid. I want to make it patterned. In order to do this I use layer pallet.
Photoshop layers are like sheets of stacked acetate. You can see through transparent areas of a layer to the layers below. The opacity of a layer is changeable and content of the layer can be made partially transparent.

(By default the layer pallet is opened but if it is not, choose> window> layer). I create a new layer just by clicking “ Create a new layer” button.. Then, I select the brush tool. To choose the color, I click the Foreground color in the Tool panel. The Color picker window opens. I choose the color and then click the OK button. Its time to specify the brush size. So, I open the brush pallet by choosing Window> Brush.
In the brush pallet I select the brush shape and then the brush size just by typing it in the” Master diameter” box.Now I start to paint the dress just by moving the pointer over the image and clicking once anywhere in her dress.Undoing action

If you want to undo just the previous action, choose Edit> Undo but if you want to undo multiple actions choose Window> History. The History panel records the recent actions you’ve performed in the image. The current state is selected, at the bottom of the list.

Now I want to change some of the dots so I click an earlier action in the History panel, and examine the changes this causes in the image window: Several previous actions are undone. Now again I create new dot by using Brush tool. History panel has removed the dimmed actions that had been listed after the selected history state and has added a new one.

Viewing images

This post is about the different methods of viewing images. After reading this post, you will learn about different techniques of zooming an image, changing the screen mode and arranging image windows in the work area.

Zooming an image

When you want to make changes in an image, you may need to modify the zoom level of the image to see more details (when you zoom in) or more of the image and less details (when you zoom out). There are different methods for this purpose:

1) Navigator panel

Navigator panel is a great way for changing the zoom level of the image or scrolling around the image.
Choose Window> Navigator. You can zoom in and zoom out the image by dragging the slider under the image thumbnail to right and left in order. The red rectangular outline represents the area of the image that appears in the image window. Drag the red outline around the thumbnail area to see other areas of the image.2) Zoom Tool
Look at the status bar at the bottom of your image window and notice the percentage listed on the far left which shows the zoom level of the image. Now find the magnifying-glass icon in the Tool panel and then click it.The pointer looks like a tiny magnifying glass with a plus sign (+) in the center of the glass.

*Note: If you hold the pointer over the tool’s icon in the Tool panel, you will see the tool’s name and its keyword shortcut.

Click anywhere in the image window. The zoom level will change into a preset one. If you click again, the zoom advances to the next level up to maximum level of 3200%. Notice that the location you clicked is centered in the enlarged view.
You can also drag a rectangular with the zoom tool to enclose the area of the image that you want to see with more details. Now that area fills the entire image window.If you want to see more of the image and less details (zooming out) press Atl/Option key while using Zoom tool. At this time, the plus sign(+) is changed into minus sign(-).

3) Type a new percent in the status bar or in the Zoom level option on the application bar.4) Choose View> Zoom in or View> Zoom out

5)Select the Zoom tool in the Tool panel and then choose zoom in or zoom out mode in the Option bar. When you choose zoom out mode you don’t need more to press Alt/Option key.

*Note: Double clicking the Zoom tool icon in the Tool panel changes the zoom level to 100%. To understanding the meaning of zoom level of 100% read this lesson: Resolution and image size

Changing the screen mode

Adobe Photoshop gives you the opportunity to view images on your entire screen or show/hide the menu bar, title bar, and scroll bars. Do one of the following:

•Choose View> Screen Mode > Standard Screen Mode to display the default window. (Menu bar at the top and scroll bars on the side)

•Choose View> Screen Mode > Full Sceen Mode With Menu Bar to display a full-screen window with a menu bar and a 50% gray background, but no title bar or scroll bars.

•Choose View > Screen Mode > Full Screen Mode to display a full-screen window with only a black background (no title bar, menu bar, or scroll bars)

*Note: You can change the screen mode by choosing the mode from the drop-down menu on the Screen Mode button in the application bar.

Arranging image windows

In the Adobe Photoshop, like other Adobe applications, you can open multiple images at the same time. To bring an open image to the front, choose the file name from the bottom of the Window menu or click on the title bar of the image. If you want to arrange the image windows, choose Window > Arrange and then choose one of the following:
•Cascade
Displays undocked windows stacked and cascading from the upper left to the lower right of the screen.

•Tile
Displays windows edge to edge. As you close images, the open windows are resized to fill the available space.

•Float in Window
Allows image to float freely.

•Float All in Windows
Floats all images.

•Consolidate All to Tabs
Shows one image in full screen and minimizes the other images to tabs.

The type tools
Type tools let you type on an image and type mask tools create a selection in the shape of type.

The path selection tools
The path selection tools make shapes or segment selections showing anchor points, direction lines, and direction points.

The shape tools, line tool and the Custom Shape tool
By these tools you can draw shapes, line or customized shapes selected from a custom shape list.

The Hand tool and The Rotate View tool
By the fist one you can easily move an image within its window and by the second one rotate the canvas.

The Zoom tool
Use the Zoom tool to zoom in or zoom out an image.

3D tools (Photoshop Extended)

The 3D Rotate tool: By using this tool you can rotate a 3D model around its x-axis or y-axis.
The 3D Roll tool: This tool lets you rotate a 3D model around its z-axis.
The 3D Pan tool: This tool moves the model in the x or y directions.
The 3D Slide tool: Use this tool to move the 3D model along the z-axis.
The 3D Scale tool: It lets you to resized the 3D model.
The 3D orbit tool: Use this tool to orbit the camera in the x or y directions
The 3d Roll View tool: This tool rotates the camera around the z-axis.
The 3D Pan View tool: By using this tool you can pan the camera in the x or y direction.
The 3D Walk view tool: It walks the camera.
The 3D zoom tool: Use this tool to change the field of view closer or farther away.

The Spot Healing Brush, the Healing Brush tool, the Patch tool , the Red Eye tool
The first one quickly removes blemishes and imperfections from photographs with a uniform background. The Healing brush tool lets you paint with a sample or pattern to repair imperfections in an image. By using Patch tool repair imperfections in a selected area of an image. The Red Eye tool removes red-eye in flash photos just with one click.

The Brush tool, the Pencil tool, the Color Replacement tool
By using Brush tool paint brush strokes and with Pencil tool you can paint hard-edged strokes.The color Replacement tool substitutes one color for another.

Clone Stamp tool, The pattern Stamp tool
Clone stamp tool paints one part of an image over another part of the same image or over another part of any open document.
The pattern Stamp tool paints with a pattern the pattern libraries or with ones you have created.

History Brush tool, Art History Brush tool
History Brush tool paints a copy of the selected state into the current image window.
The Art History Brush tool paints with stylized strokes, using the source data from a specified history state.

The eraser tools
The Eraser tool erases pixels and changes them to either the background color or to transparent.
The Background Eraser tool erases areas to transparency by dragging. This allows you to erase the background while maintaining the edges of an object in the foreground.
The Magic Eraser tool changes all similar pixels to transparent.

The Gradient tool and the Paint Bucket tool
The Gradient tool creates a gradual blend between multiple colors. You can choose from preset gradient fills or create your own.
The Paint Bucket tool fills adjacent pixels that are similar in color value to the pixels you click.

The Blur tool, The Sharpen tool, The Smudge tool
The Blur tool Blurs hard edges in an image.
The Sharpen tool sharpens soft edges in and image.
The Smudge tool simulates the effect you see when you drag a finger through wet pain.

This post is about tools in the Tool panel. Look at the left side of the workspace. You will see the Tool panel. It contains four important... groups:
1- Selection tools
2- Painting and Editing tools
3- Foreground and Background color selection boxes
4- Viewing tools
* Photoshop Cs4 extended also includes 3D tools.

Each group has different tools used for different purposes. Look at the following picture which shows names of tools.

By clicking the double –arrow button located above the Tool panel, you can toggle to a double-column view. Click the arrow again to return to the default view.

A triangle which is on the left corner of some tools shows that there are some hidden tools. If you press and hold the mouse button over the tool, the pop up list of hidden tools will open. Then you can select other hidden tools.

The Move tool
It moves selections, layers and guides.

The marquee tools
These tools make rectangular, elliptical, single row and single column selections.

The Lasso tools
Lasso tool makes free hand selection, Polygonal tool makes straight edged selection and Magnetic tool makes snap-to selection.

The Quick selection tool and The Magic Want tool
The Quick selection tool lets you quickly paint a selection using an adjustable round brush tip and the Magic Want tool selects similar colored areas.

The Crop tool, The slice tools and the Slice Select tool
By using these tools you can trim images slices and selects slices in order.

The Eyedropper tool, the Color Sampler tool, the Ruler tool, the Note tool, the Count tool
The Eyedropper tool samples colors in an area while by using The color sampler tool you can samples up to four areas of the image.
The ruler tool measures distances, location and angels and the Note tool lets you make notes and attach them to an image. Finally, you can counts objects in an image by using the Count tool.

Chelsea vs Barcelona

Which one is the winner? Chelsea or Barcelona?
After the surprising result at Camp Nou a week ago, both teams have everything to play for at Stamford Bridge as they fight for a place in this year's Champions League final.

Domestically, the two sides had an interesting weekend for different reasons, but it was certainly Barcelona who had the more action-packed of the two.

Facing arch-rivals Real Madrid at the Bernabéu in a match that could have potentially decided the winner of this season's La Liga competition, Barca stormed out 6-2 winners in the El Clásico fixture, the first time in history that either team have scored six away goals in a match against the other.

The match saw two goals each for both Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry and has all but secured the league title for Barcelona for the first time since the 2005/06 season.

Chelsea on the other hand posted a relatively convincing 3-1 victory over Fulham at Stamford Bridge. The real talking point of the match, however, was manager Guus Hiddink pairing Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka together up front, with what appeared to be very successful results.

Whether the Blues will play a similar tactic against Barcelona on Wednesday remains to be seen, but the positive manner in which the two strikers combined may give Chelsea more options up front if necessary.

After last week's draw in Barcelona, Chelsea would have appeared to hold the upper hand in this all-star fixture, being the first team all season to keep Barca goalless at home. However, after Barcelona's inspired performance against Real Madrid on Saturday, the balance of this tie is now extremely delicately poised.

A single away goal by Barcelona would require Chelsea to put two goals in the back of the Barca net, something which is by no means an easy feat. Alternatively, Chelsea will have to again show the defensive fortitude to shut down the Barcelona attack, whilst at the same time having the strength up front to put goals past goalkeeper Víctor Valdés.

Due to their home ground advantage - and what must have been an exhausting last few days for Barcelona - Chelsea may look to have a superior position coming into this match, but a single goal by Barcelona on the night would tip the balance hugely in the Spanish side's favour. As such, there is very little to determine who will ultimately come out as the winner of Wednesday's match, and indeed the entire semi-final fixture.

Whatever the outcome, we are set to witness what could be a fascinating display between the sheer technical brilliance and artistry of the Barcelona side, and a Chelsea side renowned for its dominating physical and mental prowess, as both teams look towards Rome and a spot in this year's Champions League final.

Starting Photoshop

Double click the Adobe Photoshop icon. You can find the Adobe Photoshop icon on your desktop or look in Start/ Program/ Adobe menu. Now you can see the Photoshop work area...as shown below. It consists of seven important parts:

1: Menu bar
2: Application bar
3: Option bar
4: Adobe Bridge button
5: Tools panel
6: Floating panel
7: Workspaces menu

*Don’t worry. You will get familiar with each part in next lessons.

Create a new image

1)Choose File> New
2)In the New window you specify name, width, height and the resolution of your new image.

* You will learn about other options in next lessons.

Open a file

There are three basic ways to open a file:

1-Open command
1-1) Choose File> Open and then browse your file and then click Open.

2-Open Recent command
1-2) Choose File> Open Recent and select the image from the submenu consists of recently used files.

* To change the number of files listed in this submenu, choose Edit>Preferences > File Handling

3- Adobe Bridge
1-3) Click the Launch Bridge button in the application bar or choose file> Browse in Bridge.

A window opens.

2-3) Click Folders panel in the upper-left corner and then find location of the image in the Content panel. Double click the thumbnail of the image or select the thumbnail and choose File> Open. You will learn about many features of Adobe Bridge in next lessons.

*The image opens in a window called the Image Window. You can open more than one image at a same time. Each one has it own tab.

*If you want to open camera raw or PDF files, you should specify settings and options in a dialog box which appears.

Close an image

1) Click tab of the image you want to close in case there are more than one.
2) Choose File> Close or click the close button on the title bar of the image.
